WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN (age group
5 – 8)
This workshop is only available when the company is touring
the work More Grim[m] Desires.
The evening long piece is created for an
adult audience. However, the fairy tale theme offers itself to
a young audience and the choreographer has created an interactive
workshop programme for children which the company tours together
with the stage piece. Tilted Productions is keen to get children
excited and interested in dance theatre from an early age to nurture
future dance audiences. This desire has been spurred by a very
good response from children to von Stockert’s Hairy Days
(commission for Transitions Dance Company) and polystyrene dreams
(commission for Phoenix Dance Theatre). The pieces became to play
a major role in the educational program of Transitions Dance Company
and Phoenix Dance Theatre. In addition The Place invited the choreographer
to show her short piece La Sardina in their December 2003 and
again December 2004 Fresh Program for younger audiences. Unaware
of ironic, social and sexual implications children experience
von Stockert’s works on another level than adults and in
a more direct way being fascinated by the breathtaking physicality,
humour, visually striking designs and magic use of props.
The interactive workshop program intended
to tour with More Grim[m] Desires will give children a chance
to see high quality professional dance theatre combined with a
workshop that lets them participate
and interact with what they see. The workshop is taught by all
six dancers of the company.
By showing the children suitable excerpts
of the stage work, the choreographer wants to intrigue and fascinate
them with dance theatre that brings alive the thrill of tales
such as Snow White, The Frog King and Cinderella. The excerpt
performance at the beginning of the workshop will be 20 minutes.
Aimed to spur the children’s own imagination, the 40 minute
long interactive part of the workshop will be very important.
Engaging them in movement games and playful tasks that are closely
linked to the fairy tale theme, the children will be encouraged
to be physically creative. The intention is to get the children
directly involved, allowing them to be more than just passive
viewers and to let them experience creative dance in a fun and
exciting way.
Note:
This workshop can be taught in dance studios, gyms and village halls
with appropriate floor. The dancers need to have access to the workshop
space at least 1 hour (ideally 90 minutes) before the start of the
workshop as it involves them performing excerpts of the piece.
Maximum of 30 children per workshop
Workshop duration: 1 hour
Children need to wear comfortable clothes in which they can easily
move and trainers or socks with sticker pads on the bottom.
